The first Capacity Building Session of the SPIRE project was held on 26-29 November 2017 at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia, prepared and conducted by Agora Institute for Knowledge Management, Spain.

Effective R&I management at HEIs to contribute to socio-economic growth requires developing IP policies and implementing actions in this domain to ensure stronger relevance of university activities and results to society. Upon these premises, the training was structured upon three practical and interactive Workshops which pursued the following specific objectives:

To introduce participants into the IP Management practice at HEIs at the European level, as a way to raise awareness and increase innovation capacities at the PC HEIs (Workshop 1 – The IP Management Cycle).

  • To start working on the IP Policies (creation/upgrade) of the PC HEIs, including exchange of experiences EU/Asia (Workshop 2 – IP Policy Drafting).
  • To get familiar with the IP Management practice of international R&I consortia to be ready for collaborative research and innovation opportunities (Workshop 3 – IP Management in international R&I projects).

These training days constituted an excellent opportunity for an in-depth exchange of practices and experience Europe/Asia and also amongst all the participating universities, which were very active and participative.

The next Capacity Building Session will be held next year in Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, focused on Technology Transfer Management.
